Organisational influence on the co-production of fire science: overcoming challenges and realising opportunities

Addressing the challenges of wildland fire requires that science be relevant to management and integrated into decisions. Co-production is often touted as a process can increase utility for management, by involving scientists managers in knowledge creation problem solving. Despite documented benefits co-production, these efforts face number institutional barriers. Further research needed on how institutionalise support incentivise co-production. To better understand organisations enable constrain this study examined seven co-produced projects associated with US Department Agriculture Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station (RMRS), through in-depth interviews scientists, community members. Results provide insights organisational structures cultures influence co-production science. like RMRS may able adjusting way they evaluate researchers, increasing investment delivery scientific personnel overall, supplying long-term funding time-intensive collaborations. These sorts structural changes could help transform culture so valued alongside more conventional activities products.
